With one of the world’s highest internet penetrations and customer preference changing to bank deposit, Western Union Australia’s focus on the retail network and cash-to-cash product meant it was rapidly losing market share.
Insights:
- The migrant profile from key markets such as India had switched from blue-collar to white-collar and digital was their preferred channel
- Offering a bank deposit service to customers did not cannibalise existing cash-to-cash transactions, but in fact drove greater share of wallet due to additional use cases
- The retention rate for customers who used both cash and bank deposit services was 27% higher than cash only

Drive new to brand and share of wallet growth by switching 80% of budget to digital and bank deposit customers.
